In 2007
In looking to 2007, we have adopted the theme of
Preparedness to guide us through the year.  Some of the
things are:

Preparing ourselves to help others
   “Emotional First-Aid”

Emergency preparedness in our homes
“Surviving without TV or a computer”
“2 week Snow Storm Box”

Preparing our Church
“In-House Communication plan”
“How can we help in a community disaster?”

Preparing for optimal health
      Annual Flu shots
   CPR & AED training
“What you need to know should a pandemic
         or disaster occur”

Preparation is not a new thing!  Noah prepared (for
YEARS!) before the flood.   John the Baptist proclaimed
“Prepare ye the way of the Lord”.  Jesus prepared by
taking time to be in prayer in the garden of Gethsemane.
Hmmmm…..  guess we get the idea!
BUCKET PROJECT

Gayle Becher reports that she needs us to
collect old t-shirts.  She will cut them up for
rags.  Bring clean, old t-shirts and put them
in the Bucket Project bin

The following items are most needed for
Wesley’s Bucket Project at this time:

The Bucket Project is in need of rags.  If you
have any extra towels or t-shirts around the
house, please donate them to the Bucket
Project.  Thank you for your continued
support!

Brooms
Scouring Powder (Ajax, Comet)
Bleach or Ammonia
Liquid Disinfectant (Lysol, 409, Fantastic,
Pinesol)
Dishwashing Liquid
Laundry Detergent
Scouring Pads
Sponges or Dish Cloths
Rags
Paper Towels
Rubber Gloves
Buckets

There is a collection box just inside the doors
off the parking lot.  Each month buckets, with
these cleaning supplies, are delivered to
Interfaith Hospitality Network and Horizon
House for persons to use who have attained
housing after a time of homelessness.
.
The following is a thank you note from
one of the Bucket Project recipients:

“Thanks so much for the cleaning supplies
that your church freely donated to the
Horizon House.  I recently moved out of
Lighthouse Mission into my own apartment
and the small gift from your church helped so
greatly.  May God bless you all as you
continue in His service.” (Philip Jones)

And from Horizon House—”You and your
church are such a blessing to us.  I thank you
for your ministry.”
Food Pantry
Our relationship with the Neighborhood Alliance for
Child Safety seems to be working well.  Each month we
deliver 10 bags of food to their office.  Their social
workers distribute the food to families they are working
with who live in our target zip code areas.   Occasionally
we still handle food pantry referrals through the church
office.  Recently the Veteran’s Administration called
seeking food assistance for a veteran whose benefits
had been cut by $179 per month.  When he came to get
the food we were so glad we were able to help him.  He
was skinny!  Your donations made a difference to him!
Thank you for your continued support!
Current Activities

WCS welcomes new committee member
Colleen Rush.
Colleen has been a familiar face
at Wesley for a number of years.  She attended
Survival Skills for Women and then brought her
family to visit worship.  Later they became
members.  Colleen is a homemaker with two
children.  Ben is 18 and will be a junior in high
school this fall.  He lives at the Soldier & Sailor
Children’s Home in Knightstown.  Maureen is 21
and lives with her mother.  In April and May
Maureen and Colleen volunteered at the track
and helped with educational stations for visiting
fourth graders.  When Hillary Clinton spoke at
Ben Davis High School Colleen was in the
audience to learn about her views.  In July
Colleen and Maureen both enjoyed attending
Bible School.  Colleen is fond of her Sunday
School class lead by Mike Johnson.  Colleen lives
at 47th and Georgetown Road.  They are able to
walk to Lafayette Square Mall and the new Wal-
mart.

Colleen became an expert on Indianapolis’s bus
system when she gave up driving.  She has been
a big help to WCS and is now the transportation
coordinator.  When we need to purchase more
tickets Colleen takes a bus downtown and picks
them up.  She has brought in maps and will help
anyone who needs directions.  Wesley
Community Services appreciates Colleen’s
participation

Church Federation of Greater Indianapolis
Wesley Community Services received the following
letter from the Church Federation of Greater
Indianapolis:

Dear Friend,
You will find enclosed a check in the amount of
$1,704.55.  This sum is the result of two projects:  The
Church World Service Crop Funds and the Church
Federation Benevolence Fund (Lilly Endowment).  Your
share of the Crop Fund is $454.35  and must be used
for emergency food needs.  This is a result of your
application for Crop Funds.  Your share of the
Benevolence Fund is $1,250.20.  These funds may be
used in two ways:  food and/or emergency heating
needs.  They may be used at your discretion.  May God
continue to bless you in your work.
