INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK
Our next host time is...
August 31st - September 7th

Sign up sheets will be in the narthex.  We
need volunteers to prepare the rooms, drive
the van, greet the guests, cook, play with the
children, sleep overnight and other things.
This is Wesley’s 10th year in the IHN
program for the homeless.  We will have up
to 14 adults and children who make Wesley
their home for the week of Aug. 31st –
Sept. 7th.
Will you help in some way?
The Indianapolis Interfaith Hospitality
Network (IHN) is a ministry of hope for
homeless families.  Through faith and
community based partnerships, IHN
provides emergency food and shelter,
offers individual skill development /
rehabilitation and advocates for ending
homelessness.  Our goal is economic
stability for the guests we serve.

The following is taken from an Indianapolis
IHN publication:
 “O.K. Close your eyes,
forget the cares of the day, and clear
your mind for a moment.  Then  I want
you to tell me what you see when I ask
the question:  ‘What does the face of an
Indianapolis Interfaith Network guest
family look like?’  Your first response
might be, ‘They are all different!’  And
you are absolutely right; however, in my
experience they all have one thing in
common; they wear the face of
homelessness.

The face of homelessness:  when they
first grace our doors...a look of
desperation, faint sighs of despair,
downcast eyes, a smile veiling their
depression to appease the social worker
or director (who, in their eyes, are
gatekeepers to their last thread of hope
for their family at the time).  So that
tonight, they will not be sleeping in a
dank hotel room, their car, on a friend or
family member’s sofa or floor, or in a bus
station with nowhere to go.”

Now that you’ve seen a glimpse of the
face of IHN, please pray for our guest
families, volunteers and congregations
throughout the year as we seek to
transform the face of homelessness into
the face of hope in the Indianapolis
community.
